The Graduate Program in Ecology and Evolutionary Biology (EEB) in the Department of Ecology, Evolution, and Organismal Biology (EEOB) at Iowa State University is currently recruiting highly motivated doctoral and master’s students for the Fall 2025 semester.
Program Overview:
The EEB major is ideal for students with a passion for understanding the complex dynamics of ecological systems and evolutionary processes. Key research areas include the composition, structure, and function of ecosystems, as well as the mechanisms that influence evolutionary change across species. Iowa State’s program offers an interdisciplinary approach, with extensive opportunities for research and academic development.
Our faculty members are highly productive and diverse, conducting both theoretical and empirical research on a variety of topics, from microbial to large ecosystem studies. Students in the program have the chance to work on a broad range of organismal systems, including microbes, plants, vertebrates, invertebrates, and entire ecosystems.
Research and Innovation at Iowa State:
Iowa State University is known for its strong commitment to innovation and sustainability, and is located in Ames, Iowa, a city ranked as the #1 best college town by 24/7 Wall St. in 2019. The campus offers a vibrant atmosphere with excellent resources for graduate students in the fields of ecology and evolutionary biology.
Financial Support:
All admitted graduate students will receive financial support through a 9- or 12-month graduate assistantship for the entire duration of their program. To be considered for additional fellowship opportunities, and to avoid any Visa issues for international students, applicants are encouraged to submit a complete application by December 15, 2024.
Applications submitted after this date will still be reviewed; however, the availability of funding may be limited.
How to Apply:
- Identify Potential Advisors: Interested applicants should reach out to faculty members before applying to inquire about available positions and research opportunities. Faculty are available to answer questions about the program and their own labs. A list of faculty members can be found here.
- Submit Your Application: Complete applications should be submitted by December 15, 2024, to receive priority consideration for fellowships. Detailed guidance on the application process can be found on the EEB Program website and the Admissions page.
