The Climate, Hydrology, and Ecosystem Nexus (CHEN) Lab at Colorado State University (CSU) is seeking a PhD Graduate Research Assistant to join a dynamic research team studying the carbon cycle in dryland ecosystems. This research will focus on understanding and quantifying carbon sequestration, greenhouse gas emissions, and ecosystem resilience in semi-arid and arid environments.
Key Information:
- Location: Fort Collins, Colorado
- Start Date: January 2025 (Preference), but Summer or Fall 2025 start dates are also considered.
- Advisor: Dr. Anping Chen, with potential co-advising from Drs. Melinda Smith, Alan Knapp, or other faculty members at CSU.
Position Summary:
The successful candidate will work at the intersection of field ecology, remote sensing, and ecosystem modeling to address pressing questions related to the carbon cycle in drylands. This position offers the opportunity to engage in interdisciplinary research with a strong quantitative focus, analyzing large datasets and contributing to innovative ecosystem models.
Key Responsibilities:
- Utilize remote sensing and field observations to measure variations in the dryland carbon cycle and identify driving mechanisms.
- Develop and apply ecosystem models to simulate carbon processes under climate change scenarios.
- Collaborate with interdisciplinary research teams and contribute to peer-reviewed publications and conference presentations.
Preferred Qualifications:
In addition to meeting the general requirements of the Graduate Degree Program in Ecology (GDPE) at Colorado State University, the ideal candidate will possess the following:
- Strong quantitative skills and experience with statistical software (e.g., R, Python).
- Background in ecosystem modeling, carbon cycle research, or remote sensing.
- Proven ability to work independently and within a collaborative research team.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills.
Funding:
The PhD position is fully funded for up to four years, covering tuition, a competitive stipend, and benefits, contingent on satisfactory progress.
Application Instructions:
